Arriving just 5 days after Mommy's birthday and the morning after my baby shower; Joey and I were very surprised when my water broke at 5:00am on 06/15/09. I tried to rationalized what was going on and make excuses that it could be something else, but I knew what it was after attending our first labor and birth class just one week earlier. I called the doctor and they told me to come in right away. Keep in mind I did not have my hospital bag packed yet and we had just started packing everything up for our big move. The plan was to be in our new home and settled before she was here. That didn't happen! We arrived at the hospital at about 7:00am were I was admitted and was surprised to find out that I was already 4 cm dilated. Since my water had broke there was nothing they could do to stop labor we were not leaving without a baby. From 7:00am to 2:00pm we just played the waiting game breathing through contractions. To my surprise I had not dilated anymore my labor had stopped; so they had to start inducing to get the baby out. They slowly kept upping my dosage and boy was it painful I actually passed out for about 30 min from the pain. Then woke up and had to push they checked me and I was fully dilated. It was time! I pushed for about 45 minutes that actually seemed to me 5 minutes. She was successfully delivered at 5:19pm weighing only 4lbs 8 oz. Boy she was tiny. Since she was early they decided to keep her in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) She was having some difficulty breathing on her own. We went and saw her everyday and I pumped from home and brought supply to her in the NICU. 2 weeks and 2 days later we were able to bring her home. We still were not in our new house yet we actually closed the day before we brought her home so we had a newborn and were moving at the same time. Elliana came 5 weeks early. She was born at 35 weeks.
